PROCESS

Working from the tradition of handcraft means engaging with materials and process,  allowing the dialogue between head, hand and heart to become manifest in material form and in the process revealing something of the human soul.

EXPLORE & OBSERVE

My environment, the prairie Midwest, offers both inspiration and materials for my work.  The prairie as an ideological construct as well as the physical prairie.

COLLECT & SORT

SKETCH

I start to form ideas with a simple sketch or paper cutouts that allow for a more

3- dimensional design play.

MODEL

I bring the physical objects into the process, as a way to visualize how they operate decoratively as well as the associative meanings that are formed.

Computer modeling has also become an important tool in creating both models and finished works.

MOLD & CAST

CONSTRUCT

In building pieces, I use traditional materials and processes associated with gold and silversmithing as well as unfamiliar and non-traditional materials such as resins, rubber, glass, bone, hide, fur.
